A Great Mouse Surprise!

London, 1887

Basil of Baker Street looked up from his newspaper, reading another report by his beloved girlfriend, Nellie Brie, Reporter of The Daily Nibbler. He sniffed the air as a mysterious smell was wafting through the entire room. There had also been some strange noises in the hallway, and the front door had been opened and closed an unusual number of times.

"That doesn't smell like Mrs Judson's usual tea," Basil muttered grimly. "I sense there's trouble afoot........."

He hurried to the kitchen where his housekeeper, Mrs Judson, was standing near the oven.

"Er - what is it, Mr Basil?" she asked immediately.

Basil narrowed his eyes. Was it his imagination, or did she have a guilty expression on her face? Just then, he noticed a dab of a mysterious blue substance on the counter.

"Nothing," Basil told Mrs Judson, quickly wiping up the substance. "Nothing at all."

He retreated to his study, his mind churning. Could this be a mystery - in his own residence?!

Basil quickly set up a complicated array of beakers and test tubes, then dropped the blue substance into his new contraption. the little dial at the end spun around. The arrow landed on the words UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE - EDIBLE.

"Confound it," he muttered. "That tells me nothing!"

He decided to search for even more clues. Tiptoeing into the hallway, he heard some slightly familiar voices.
Basil followed the voices to the kitchen. Leaning against the door he listened carefully.

"Oh, dear, I'll never be ready on time!" Mrs Judson cried in panic.

"No! I don't see that happening at all really. I mean even if they were able to steel some porridge from Ashford, They wouldn't ever be able to open the milk bottle. I think the troublemaker will lose it and then throw uncooked porridge mix everywhere!" put in someone's voice.

"Nonsense, Madam. Everything will be all right," another replied.

"Those are my dear and loyal assistant Dr David Q. Dawson and my beloved girlfriend Nellie Brie's voices!" Basil whispered. "Blast it, don't tell me that they're in on this dastardly plot!"

Just then Dawson opened the door with Nellie and both spotted Basil. "Oh, There you are, Basil Dear," said Nellie.

"And I trust all went well, Old Chap," added Dawson. "There's something that requires your attention, if you please."

"There is?" asked Basil suspiciously.

Nellie and Dawson chuckled. "Yes, We need to speak to you about a few objectives in the drawing room."

Aha! Basil thought. Perhaps I will now get to the bottom of this mystery!

As Nellie and Dawson threw open the doors of the drawing room, a huge chorus of voices yelled:

"Surprise! Happy Birthday, Basil!"

Basil stared in shock. His family and friends all stood there, smiling at him. Even Olivia Flaversham and her father and Fievel Mousekewitz and his family were there, along with Tiger and Miss Kitty outside the window, and Tony and Bridget Toponi and Cholena, alongside The Mousekewitz and Flaversham families. And Mrs Judson was holding a bright blue cake with candles on it!

"Well, I certainly didn't expect that!" Basil laughed out. What kind of a detective am I? he thought, I didn't even remember my own birthday!
My first ever fanfiction! :D (Big Grin)

In honour of the 30th Anniversary of both An American Tail and The Great Mouse Detective, I just thought of a brilliant fanfic wondering, what would happen if Basil of Baker Street almost forgotten his own birthday?

Also I shifted the timeline from 1885 and 1897 respectively to 1887 to make it as if everyone in the AAT/GMD fandom have all met each other either before or after the events of both films.

Again, I wonder what Surenity would think of this fanfic ;) (Wink)

Thanks for viewing, please don't forget to Favourite +fav  and please tell me what you think Heart :) (Smile)

But please note, please do NOT make any mean comments! I worked really hard on this!
